The Kansas City Chiefs announced Wednesday the team has released star safety Eric Berry.
General manager Brett Veach said it was in the team’s “best interest” to release Berry. But, the team gave no other specifics about his release.
“Knowing what Eric has meant to this organization and this city made this an incredibly difficult decision,” Veach said. “We wish him nothing but the best.”
Berry played in 89 games during nine NFL seasons with the Chiefs, earning five trips to the Pro Bowl. He also overcame a battle with cancer during his time on the team.
