Kansas lawmakers consider gun restrictions

A Kansas representative is leading the way for Kansas to start discussions on gun laws.

Representative Jim Ward is pushing for one bill in particular, called the ‘Red Flags Bill’. He said the law came out of research from school shootings where teachers, coaches, and family members shared concerns with what school shooters did or said before the act took place.

The bill proposes if there are concerns like this, a judge can decide if an individual is temporarily too dangerous to have or purchase a gun.

“There’s just a level of people, even folks who are strong gun rights people, who think there should be reasonable gun safety provisions and this is another one of those. There’s about three or four good gun safety bills that need to be discussed this year,” Ward said.

The bill is being discussed in a committee right now along with other gun provisions.
