Lady Hornet Jessica Wayne earns MIAA Player of the Week honors

February 11, 2019 – Emporia State’s Jessica Wayne has earned MIAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for the first time this season as she averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in two Lady Hornet wins last week.

She had 20 points, six rebounds and two steals in Emporia State’s 80-77 win at Southwest Baptist on Thursday night, including the game winning layup and free throw with 2.0 seconds left. She came back with 17 points, five rebounds and three steals in the Lady Hornets 65-62 win at then #21 Central Missouri on Saturday. She scored ten points in the fourth quarter and her three-pointer with 2:59 left game Emporia State a 63-58 lead.

The win over the defending national champion Jennies was the Lady Hornets fourth win over a nationally ranked team this season and they have now won the last three games they have played against defending national champions.

The Lady Hornets, 18-5 overall, 9-4 in the MIAA and on a six game winning streak, are back in action on Thursday against Central Oklahoma. Tip-off in White Auditorium is set for 5:30 p.m.
