Library courtyard expected to open in spring

The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library is working on an addition called ‘Claire’s Courtyard.’

The addition was supposed to be opened already, but winter weather pushed back construction a bit. Once it’s done people will still be able to enjoy a pavilion in the courtyard.

Chief Of Staff Thad Hartman said as long as the weather cooperates, the courtyard should be open by the spring.

“That will be heated and air conditioned, so on those days in which there is inclement weather, you can still use that space and kind of have an outdoor feel while you’re maybe reading a book,” Hartman said.

Claire’s Courtyard will also feature an outdoor patio and amphitheater.
