TOPEKA (KSNT) – A house fire in the Potwin area in Topeka has been extinguished by the Topeka Fire Department.

According to the TFD, the fire occurred at 1726 SW 3rd St. just before 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb, 11. Fire crews found smoke and flames billowing from the rear of a 2-story house and began an offensive fire attack.

Radiant heat from the house fire caused a neighboring house to also catch on fire. All occupants of both structures were accounted for and were able to evacuate.

Fire in the 1700 block of 3rd Street in North Topeka

A preliminary investigation shows that the cause of the fire was accidental and associated with electircal wiring. Around $30,000 in damage is estimated to have been caused by the fire. No working smoke detectors were located in the house which had the original fire.
