Congressman Watkins selected for international terrorism House subcommittee

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) - New Congressman Steve Watkins announced on Monday that he will be part of the Middle East, North Africa, and International Terrorism Subcommittee in the House of Representatives.

Rep. Watkins replaced Rep. Jenkins in January and represents Kansas' 2nd District. Watkins ran on a platform that, in part, emphasized his military background.

The congressman said the following about this committee assigment.

“Combatting international terrorism is an ever-evolving dynamic that requires first-hand experience in tactical warfare. It is not enough to simply battle the threats of today; we must be preparing for the threats of tomorrow. I am uniquely qualified to provide first-hand insight on how decisions made in Washington, DC affect not only our boots on the ground but the very landscape of international defense. It is time to be calculated, precise, and absolutely merciless when combating international terrorism,” Watkins said.
