TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) - Kids in Topeka have a new way to sail on their own adventures.
The Kansas Children's Discovery Center unveiled their new pirate ship Wednesday. The ship is part of the outdoor learning area at the Discovery Center.
The ship has been named "Seas the Day" after a social media vote. The name was suggested by six-year-old Macy Archer, and her mother, from Carbondale.
The Discovery Center's CEO, Dene Mosier, said the name perfectly fits the idea behind the pirate ship.
"We like to embrace all of those moments of childhood, so we really thought that it was so fitting. We want to seize the day with our children. We want to embrace these moments and opportunities, and here is the magical place to do that," Mosier said.
The ship was designed and built by the Discover Center's own Draque Carver and with volunteer help.
