NEMAHA COUNTY (KSNT) – The Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible drowning at a local lake.
Deputies say one person died at Centralia Lake on Friday. That person’s name has not been released. The City of Centralia and the sheriff’s office has closed the lake to the public at this time.
The Sabetha Fire Department was called to the scene of an active drowning around 11:30 a.m. Friday. SFD responded with Brush 1, the rescue boat and Rescue 37. SFD is the only department in Nemaha County with water and ice rescue suits and a rescue boat.
SFD was assisted by Centralia Fire and Seneca Fire and later assisted by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. SFD says that the rescue operation later became a recovery.
