Topeka man dies after car crashes into semi

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) - Emergency crews responded to a fatal crash late Monday morning near the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports just before 11:00 a.m. a 2013 Volkswagen Passat and a semi were both westbound on U.S. Highway 24 about two miles east of U.S. 75 when the Volkswagen rear ended the semi.

The driver of the Volkswagen was identified as 36-year-old Dustin Keith Gillespie, of Topeka.  He was taken to Stormont Vail in Topeka where he later died from his injuries. KHP says a family member was on scene. Gillespie was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the semi was identified as 45-year-old Chad Darwin Hanson, of Bristow, Iowa.  He was not injured and was wearing a seat belt.
