Emporia firefighters respond to early morning fire at 618 Congress

EMPORIA (KSNT) – One dog died and residents of a home on Congress Street were displaced after an early morning fire in Emporia.

Lyon County dispatch confirmed the Emporia Fire Department was involved in fighting an active home fire at 816 Congress Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were able to find a tenants dog but resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful and the dog died.

Battalion Chief Tony Fuller said an estimated $30,000 to $40,000 damage was done.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The building had six apartments and everyone home was able to get out safely.
