Evacuations ordered after large brush fire, crews working second fire in Riley County

RILEY COUNTY, Kan. (KSNT) – Emergency crews in Riley County are on scene of a second large brush fire.

The Riley County Police Department said just before 2 p.m. another large grass fire broke out near the intersection of May Day Road and Wohler Road.

RCPD said people will be notified if evacuations are necessary.

Around noon, a number of firefighters were at the scene of a fire just west of Leonardville in northwest Riley County.

Police said residents in the area were being evacuated. People were encouraged to avoid the area.

RCPD said around 2 p.m. the fire was contained and the area was safe for people to return.
