TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) — A Topeka family is still grieving after two pit bulls attacked and killed two year old, Piper Dunbar Saturday night.
“And I would give anything and everything I’ve got to tell her I love her one more time,” Piper’s father, Donnie Dunbar said.
Saturday night, Dunbar, said he and his daughter were sleeping on the couch. He says he woke up and saw his daughter gone from inside his house and called 911.
“She touched my life in so many ways…changed my life in so many ways,” Dunbar said. “Every decision I made in life…I always thought about that baby.”
Police showed up and found piper dead in the corner of the front yard. Donnie says he thinks Piper made her way outside the home while he was sleeping. Dunbar says a family friend was staying at the house and brought along two pit bulls. He says he thinks both pit bulls came from the backyard and attacked his daughter.
“You can never be running too late just to take one more step just to make sure that little baby’s safe. You can make a difference like that.”
Donnie and other family members are still upset with losing Piper, but they tell me they’re even more upset with the owner of the two dogs.
“That poor baby was such a beautiful girl” Piper’s aunt, Billie Rhoads said. “She didn’t deserve this you know? It’s just…this should not have happened.”
Police took the dogs to animal control after they left the house Saturday night. Police say they won’t have a decision on what happens with the dogs or the dog owner until the end of the investigation.
“But, my little angel’s got her wings now. That’s all that matters.”
The family is hosting a candle light vigil night in front of their home Tuesday night at 8.Please use caution when donating money to a GoFundMe site.
