TOPEKA (KSNT) – Fire crews responded to a house fire in the downtown area of Topeka Wednesday.

Alan Stahl with the Topeka Fire Department said firefighters were called around 9 a.m. on March 22 to a report of a home on fire in the 300 block of Southwest Tyler St. Crews found a fire coming from a second story window of the home, later found to be a bedroom, and began working to douse the flames.

A search of the residence showed no one was home during the incident, according to Stahl. As a result, no one was injured and the fire was put out before significant damage could be done.

Stahl said investigators determined that the fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damage with $20,000 associated with structural damage and $10,000 to content loss. Smoke detectors were inside the home. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
