TOPEKA (KSNT) – A section of U.S. Highway 24 was closed after a three-car crash near Silver Lake that left one person with serious injuries.

Two vehicles were traveling eastbound when one of the vehicles, a Toyota Highlander, prepared to turn north onto NW Hodges Road at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

When the Highlander stopped and waited to turn, the vehicle behind, a Ford Edge, rear ended it. The Highlander was pushed into the westbound lanes where it struck a mail truck.

The mail truck driver, a 38-year-old Wamego man, was taken to the hospital with suspected serious injuries.

The driver of the Ford Edge, a Silver Lake girl, 17, and the driver of the Highlander, a Topeka woman, 36, were taken to the hospital with suspected minor injuries.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, all parties were wearing seatbelts.
