TOPEKA (KSNT) – Westbound Interstate 70 in west Topeka was shut down after a two-vehicle crash Friday morning.
The Kansas Highway Patrol identified Mark Layne Pudwill, 55, of Topeka, as the driver going the wrong way on I-70 Friday morning.
Brent Allen Edgecomb, 37, of Lenexa, was traveling westbound in the westbound lanes when he was hit head-on by Pudwill. Edgecomb was taken to Stormont Vail Hospital.
Both men were wearing seatbelts, according to the KHP.
The road was reopened at 9:25 a.m. according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Topeka Metro KDOT encouraged drivers to find an alternative route if they are traveling westbound. Westbound traffic was being diverted onto north 75.
Law enforcement confirmed to KSNT that the head-on crash was the result of a wrong-way driver.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is diverting traffic.
