A K-State alum is left to figure out what’s next for his business after it was completely destroyed by a tornado that went through Linwood.

Mark Illausky is the owner of the Free State Growers in Linwood and was in Lenexa when the tornado hit.

After finding out his business was in the direct path of the tornado, he came back as soon as he could to check on his employees and check out the damage.

Illausky said while it’s a devastating blow, it won’t stop him and the rest of the staff from rebuilding.

They’re so proud of what they do here and I’m so proud of that because that means that they take pride in it, said Illausky. They want to rebuild it because they don’t want to give up just like I don’t want to give up.

Illausky said there was one employee in the greenhouse at the time of the tornado, where he took cover until the storm passed. He is okay and only suffered some minor cuts and bruises.

Illausky said Kaw Valley Greenhouses in Manhattan, where he used to work, reached out to him and offered their support.
