Lake Perry rises 20 feet with flood water, may affect Memorial Day business

OZAWKIE, Kan. (KSNT) - Lakes in northeast Kansas are faced with flooding leaving some marinas concerned about Memorial Day business.

Flooding at Perry Lake has added 20 extra feet of water.

The general manager at Lake Perry Yacht and Marina said the flooding there hasn't been this bad since 1993.

"Our business will be severely diminished due to lack of ability to handle drive in traffic. People want to trailer their boats out here and launch. There are no boat ramps available," said Michael Stanley, Lake Perry Yacht and Marina general manager.

Parts of the parking lot and the boat ramps are now under water.

Ordinarily, workers at the marina help people from all over northeast Kansas launch their boats into the water, but now there's no way to get in.

Stanley also says their restaurant is about four feet away from also being under water. They're hoping any incoming rain won't make matters worse.
