33-year-old Tony Foster was sentenced Friday for killing David William Payne in July 2018.

Foster was sentenced to more than 18 years in prison. Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay announced that Foster was ordered to serve 213 consecutive months.

Earlier this year, Foster was found guilty of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He was ordered to serve 205 months for the murder and an additional 8 months for the firearm charge.

On July 9, 2018, Topeka Police was called to the 900 block of NE Madison Street. When police arrived they found David Payne with a single gunshot wound.

Payne was taken to the hospital where he later died. Foster was found later that night and was charged with homicide.
