Thousands of people have already bought their tickets for a chance to win the St. Jude Dream Home.
Saturday, they got a chance to take a look inside their potential new home during the open house.
Kerri Braswell has had her eye on the dream home since the beginning of its construction.
“It just happened to be really close to work,” said Braswell. “So, I’ve kind of been driving around, checking it out, watching the progress of the whole thing go up.”
Dozens of people came through and made themselves at home.
“It’s so roomy and I can definitely see raising a family here because it’s so precious and sweet in here,” said ticket buyer Courtney Vazquez. “I love it.”
With over 5,000 tickets sold so far, people involved with the project say the money raised will go a long way to help patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“The survival rate for kids with cancer just over the last 50 years, less than 50 years has gone up exponentially and it continues to climb, and it’s all because of the donors,” said volunteer Angie Fairbanks.
Braswell knows first hand just how important the donations are to helping the patients and their families.
Her son-in-law was a patient at St. Jude when he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma at two-years-old.
“He was fortunate in January to welcome his first son into the world,” said Braswell. “We have always been supporters of St. Jude, but now it kind of holds that special meaning. If it wasn’t for St. Jude, our grandson would not be here.”
A new house isn’t the only thing up for grabs.
Guests can sign up to win a $10,000 shopping spree from the Furniture Mall of Kanas.
Open house tours will be held on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5:00 p.m from May 18 to June 9.
