Capital Area Crime Stoppers has officially changed its name to Shawnee County Crime Stoppers. Before that iteration, the organization that offers cash rewards for information about felony crimes was called Crime Stoppers of Topeka.
In addition, Shawnee County Crime Stoppers is unveiling a new logo to accompany the name
“The name change allows the organization to better reflect the community it serves and reduce any confusion among the public,” Crime Stoppers coordinator Jeri Coles said in a statement. “The organization’s mission remains to provide a method for local law enforcement to receive information on crimes safely and anonymously from the general public.”
In addition to the new name, Coles said there is a new Crime Stoppers mobile app called P3Tips, which can be downloaded at the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store to reflect a more modern way of receiving tips.
As it has been since the inception of the program, the Shawnee County Crime Stoppers telephone tips number is 785-234-0007.
