Shawnee Co. Sheriff asks community to help locate shooting suspect

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – UPDATE 2:24 p.m.: The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office says it needs people from the community to help locate 27-year-old Zachery R. Nelson, following a shooting near 4200 NW Beecher Road.

Nelson is a white male, 5’11”, 165 pounds, with blonde hair and green eyes. He was last seen in a dark blue 2011 GMC Canyon pickup truck. Sheriff Brian C. Hill is asking the community to call 911 if they see him, and not to approach him personally.

According to a release, deputies responded to reports of a shooting near NW Beecher Rd. and NW Netherland Dr. around 8:30 Friday night. No injuries were reported. Deputies were informed that Nelson fired multiple rounds at another person.

Deputies were then tipped off to his location, prompting a standoff at SW 12th Street and SW Frazier Street into Saturday morning. Nelson was not located at that location.
