In a statement Monday, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment said the state’s supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children, known as the “WIC Program,” will get additional federal money to maintain the program though early March.

KDHE said officials were notified about the continued federal money from the U.S. Department of Agriculture which administers the program intended for low-income pregnant or postpartum women, and infants and children up to five years-old who are found to be at nutritional risk.

State health officials said the additional money would allow the program to buy food until March 4.
