TOPEKA (KSNT) – The City of Topeka has confirmed there are now three candidates for mayor in a Tuesday press conference.

Shawnee County election records show the following candidates for mayor:

  • Daniel Brown, of Topeka
  • Patrick Klick, of Topeka
  • Mike Padilla, of Topeka

The mayoral candidate list shows it was last updated Friday evening. As recent as 10 days before that, only Topeka City Councilman Mike Padilla had filed to run for the position. Padilla told KSNT News back in March that he was planning to run.

Current Mayor Michelle De La Isla announced previously she won’t seek reelection, meaning there will be no battle with an incumbent. She is exiting politics and accepted a new position as Managing Director for the Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation.

The organization says De La Isla will “lead DRK’s Midwest presence building partnerships, sourcing new investments, and working with the leadership of those organizations as an operating partner and board member as they grow to build capacity and achieve their maximum impact.” The foundation funds and supports social enterprises that address world and national challenges.
