Topeka man sentenced for his role in 2017 Massachusetts Street shooting

Ahmad Rayton, 23, of Topeka was sentenced to 10 years on Wednesday for attempted voluntary manslaughter.

Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announced on Wednesday that Rayton was sentenced after pleading guilty to attempted voluntary manslaughter for his attempt to kill Robert Wheeler back in October 2017. 

Anthony Roberts Jr., 22, of Topeka is currently set for a jury trial to begin on June 10. He faces charges of two counts of first degree murder, second degree murder, and attempted second degree murder.

Three people were killed and two were injured after a shooting on Massachusetts Street in downtown Lawrence on October 1, 2017. Leah Elizabeth Brown, 22, of Shawnee, Colwin Lynn Henderson, 20, and Tremel Dupree Dean, 24, were killed in the shooting.
