Topeka officers take talents from the streets to the Sprint Center

Not many people can say their karaoke is good enough to perform on stage with an American Idol winner.

Two Capitol police officers performed on stage with Kelly Clarkson at the Sprint Center in Kansas City on Thursday night.

“I don’t know what made me nervous, my first traffic stop or going out on stage in front of 15,000 plus people,” said Officer Mike Pagel. “And that by far was the experience right there that made me super nervous. It was awesome though and Kelly was great to us.”

It all started when the Capitol police needed to boost their social media presence.

Officer Jackson is the lead singer of the duo, according to the pair.

“She watched all of our videos and she fell in love and said we have to have them,” said Officer Lamont Jackson.

Officer pagle runs the Captiol police social media.

“I saw other police agencies doing police car karaoke throughout the nation,” said Pagel. “A lot of them lip sing but I wanted to try something different.”

They were not allowed to tell anyone about the performance, but they definitely practiced leading up to the concert.

“Lamont knew the song, Stand by Me,” said Pagel. “I’m more the man behind the scenes type of person.”

Pagel said he would love to do a carpool karaoke with Justin Timberlake next. Jackson wants to meet James Corden, the original carpool karaoke inventor.
