Gunshots, a police chase and a standoff at an east Topeka home all ended with police arresting two people Tuesday night.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired from a vehicle around 9 p.m. near Southeast 2nd Street and Norwood Street. They said they found and followed a white vehicle to the 700 block of Leland Street, where the two occupants fled on foot to a nearby house.

Topeka police surrounded the home, and KSNT was on scene as a standoff happened.

Five people inside the home were evacuated and neighbors were asked to get out of the area. The standoff ended peacefully as officers arrested the two from the car.

TPD Lieutenant Manuel Munoz spoke with KSNT after the standoff was over. He said they found the two suspects, identified as Omar N. Urista and Antonio Vincente Arreola, hiding in the home’s basement.
