Topeka police find felon with gun, meth during assault call

A man is in jail after he was caught with methamphetamine and a gun during an assault Tuesday afternoon, Topeka police said.

Officers responded to a reported assault in progress around 3:30 p.m. in the 3300 block of SW 29th Street. They identified a suspect on scene, 33-year-old Boisy Barefield, and said he was found in possession of a firearm as a felon, and in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.

Barefield was arrested and taken to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on charges including:

  • Felon in possession of a firearm
  • Possession of methamphetamine and marijuana
  • Aggravated assault
  • Battery  

A TPD Watch Commander said there were no serious injuries reported by the involved assault victim and that they believe Barefield and the victim knew each other.
