TPD Chief: ‘We will work relentlessly to find those who hurt Topeka citizens’

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – The Topeka Police Department Chief has put together an organized crime and gang unit to put a stop to gang and drug related shootings.

Chief James Brown says the department will move some resources around to increase the unit size.

Brown says gang activity had decreased since their crackdown in the Hi-Crest neighborhood last summer following shootings there.

“You know the officers did a really good job last year during Hi Crest and we put a ki-bash on that activity and we saw a huge decrease in violent crimes up to this point. But with the unseasonably warm weather and with school now being let out we’ve noticed an increase in violent crimes.”

Brown also says the department will work relentlessly to find those who hurt Topeka citizens.
