HIAWATHA Kan. (KSNT) – Emergency crews are on scene of a train derailment north of Hiawatha.
According to the Union Pacific Railroad, 12 cars derailed.
The Hiawatha Fire Chief, Gene Atland, told KSNT some of the cars took down power lines and left a small leak of diesel coming from one of the cars.
No injuries were reported.
A representative from Union Pacific told KSNT the derailment could be due to a number of reasons, one of them being the increased summer heat. In the summer months, train tracks can constrict and in the winter, they will expand.
This is an ongoing investigation.
