Victim identified in fatal shooting at Motel 6 on SW Wanamaker in Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A shooting was reported at 2:44 a.m. on Thursday morning at 1224 SW Wanamaker at the Motel 6 in Topeka.

The report said that a man walked up to the reception counter at the motel and told the receptionist that he had shot and killed someone in his room.

Upon arrival, officers located one deceased man. According to a press release from the Topeka Police Department sent Thursday, the homicide victim has been identified as Clyde C. Cannon, 45.

Cannon was involved in a physical altercation with a family member prior to the shooting — another male in his 40’s — who was believed to have been involved in this incident was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He wasn’t shot. He was later interviewed at the Law Enforcement Center before being released.

Police say all involved parties are accounted for and there is no safety concern for the public related to this incident.
