A local veteran is celebrating a major milestone.

World War II veteran Art Haug lives at the Topeka Veterans Affairs campus and is celebrating his 100th birthday.

Family and friends from Florida to Arizona came out to celebrate the big birthday on Saturday.

Out of his 14 siblings, Art had a sister that made it to 103 years old.

When asked what it’s like turning 100, Art is all humor.

“I feel like I’m 21…no 18, 18,” he said. “I feel pretty damn good.”

According to a study done by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, roughly half a million of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II are still living.
