Local Walmarts are offering free health screenings and flu shots to the public as the flu’s peak season approaches.

As part of the national Walmart Wellness event on Saturday, the Walmart Supercenters on 1501 SW Wanamaker Rd., 1301 SW 37th St. and 2630 SE California Ave. will offer free health screenings at a wellness booth. The screening will check BMI, cholesterol, blood glucose levels and heart-rate. A pharmacist for the Wanamaker Walmart said the pharmacy will run insurance for flu shots, but that they are generally a covered expense.

Technicians will be at the Wanamaker Road and 37th Street Walmart Supercenters’ paired vision centers for free vision screenings. An optician for the 37th Street Walmart said the vision center will have an eye doctor on site for follow-up appointments as well.

The Walmart Wellness Day event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
