The key to success at one local car dealership is having a woman behind the wheel.
For the last 20 years, Jamie Raney has worked in the auto business.
“A lot of times people are like ‘wow, you’re the GM’ and I’m like ‘yeah, yeah, yeah come, come on in!’,” said Raney, General Manager at Kia of Manhattan.
She moved to Manhattan from Joplin to continue her dream of running a car dealership.
“There aren’t many women that have this position in the auto industry,” said Raney. “You know, you see office work and stuff like that.”
Raney admits she put on quite a few miles to get to where she is today. She first started as an office manager, then moved to a finance director role.
Her advice for young girls who want to break into male-dominated industries is just to focus on being a leader.
“Stay focused, set your goals, teach other people how to set goals, and keep that clear mindset you will come a long ways in life,” said Raney.
In Raney’s case she’s inspired and helped people along the way.
“Working for Jamie is a pleasure every day,” said Randall Mims, a member of the sales staff. “There’s always a smile, there’s always ambition to get something done, to reach out, to just try new things. It’s really a great opportunity for her as well as seeing us grow as people as well as she mentors us.”
