Middle school students take part in severe weather awareness week

Severe weather can strike at any moment. That’s why students at Landon Middle School took part in a statewide tornado drill Tuesday morning.

Students practice going to designated safety shelters during the drill.

Principal David Boggs saud severe weather isn’t something to be taken lightly.

“It’s extremely important,” said Boggs. “Remember, before we teach anybody anything, our top priority is to keep kids safe. When their parents drop them off at our door, they’re our responsibility and they’re our kids.”

The statewide drill was a part of severe weather awareness week. Officials say the week highlights the importance of emergency preparedness.
