JACKSONVILLE, Mo. (KSNT/CNN) – A Missouri soldier who was killed alongside two other military servicemen in Jordan was laid to rest Saturday in Jacksonville, Missouri.

Family and friends of Sgt. First Class Matthew Lewellen gathered to pay their respects. 27-year-old Sgt. Lewellen and two other U.S. service members, Kevin McEnroe and James Moriarty, were killed earlier this month during a training mission in Jordan. The three men were a part of the 5th Special Forces Group.

Sgt. Lewellen was a 2007 graduate of Kirksville High School. He joined the Army in 2010 after attending both Truman State University and the University of Kansas.

Fellow soldiers remembered Lewellen as a colleague who put the lives of others before himself. They say he had a positive impact on their lives, both personally and professionally.

Sgt. Lewellen was buried with military honors at Missouri’s Veterans Cemetary in Jacksonville.
