After celebrating the nation’s flag yesterday, city leaders are considering a proposal to redesign the Topeka city flag. Topeka’s young professional group Forge is behind the proposed redesign. Group member Leo Espinoza says they hope that it can be part of the city’s revitalization efforts.
“There’s a lot of excitement about what Topeka is becoming with all of the economic development projects going on right now,” Espinoza said, “We really think now is a perfect time to reflect on the modern brand of what Topeka is.”
Currently the project is in the beginning stages. The city council has been open to the concept of a new flag, but now is when the real work begins.
“The project is really going to be a community-wide, collaborative project where we will be asking the public for design ideas.” Espinoza said. “There will also be a process for them to give feedback on the designs that have been submitted.”
Some Topekans are open to the idea, but others say they want to see the new design before getting too excited.
If you want updates on the project, Forge will be posting them here.
