New jobs and new candy coming to Mars production plant in Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) – 70 new jobs and millions of dollars in new investment will soon be coming to Topeka.

This as Mars Inc. plans a $100 million expansion to its Kansas Candy Making Plant, just a year after the grand opening.

“Every region is always looking to innovate, and looking to grow their region as best as they possibly can, fortunately for us this is the best choice for Mars right now,” said Bret Spangler, Mars Chocolate North America Site Director for Topeka.

A 90,000 square foot addition and more, “We’re delighted to have the 100 million dollar investment, we’re delighted to have the 70 jobs,” said Kansas Governor Sam Brownback.

With even more growth possibilities on the horizon.

The Expansion will be added on to the rear of the existing building.

The Company also plans to unveil a brand new “innovative” candy.

What that candy will be? Well they’re not saying just yet, “Unfortunately we can’t, we will a little bit closer to the launch,” said Spangler.

So why the expansion of this branch? And why the production of their brand new product here?

“We truly have an outstanding group of people here in Team Topeka,” said Spangler.

A diverse group of employees, which Spangler says exemplify the 5 primary Mars principles: quality, responsibility, mutuality, efficiency, and freedom.

“They feel like the value, structure, culture within Kansas fits the Mars Culture very well,” said Gov. Brownback.

And with room to add two more lines at the Topeka plant, even more expansion could be coming to Kansas.

Even more good news, a Mars pop up shop may even re-appear.

Mars tells KSNT News they’re currently working with their retail partners to bring a store back to Topeka again.
