TOPEKA (KSNT) – Firefighters battled to contain a fire coming from a single-story house at 2:30 a.m. in central Topeka.
Upon arrival, the Topeka Fire Department (TFD) started an offensive battle to keep smoke and flames contained. Firefighters found no occupants in the home in the 2800 block of southeast 6th Street, according to a press release from Topeka Communication Specialist Rosie Nichols.
The TFD Investigation Unit was undetermined on the origin and cause of the fire. The total estimated loss was $42,000 with $37,000 attributed to the structural loss and $5,000 to the loss of contents. The incident is still under investigation, according to the press release.
No working smoke detectors were found inside the structure, according to the press release.
