One southbound lane of I-35 at Wellington is now open after flooding closed parts of the Turnpike.

In a Tweet posted to the Kansas Transit Authority’s Twitter page this morning, one lane of Southbound I-35 is now open from the Wellington exit to the state line.

Meanwhile, northbound traffic is still closed from the Oklahoma State line to the Wellington exit.

Traffic on I-35 is being diverted through Cowley County on U.S. 160 and U.S. 77.

This has led to an unusually volume of traffic on the U.S. 77 bypass in Arkansas City. Citizens who do not need to travel are encouraged to remain at home and avoid the bypass due to the congestion.

This interstate detouring may continue indefinitely, due to apparent damage to the turnpike roadway.
