Prosecutor: pregnant mom killed in murder-for-hire scheme

The Christmas killing of 31-year-old Jenna Schafer of Junction City was the result of a murder-for-hire plot between two men who were arrested in the case.

Geary County Attorney Krista Blaisdell said Monday that Schafer, who was pregnant, was shot to death by 33-year-old Dion Green sometime between December 24 or 25 at a Junction City residence.

The prosecutor alleges Green was hired to do the killing by 33-year-old Mashaun Baker of Junction City who was arrested the day after the shooting.  Green is charged with the capital murder of both Schafer and her unborn child.

Baker is also charged with capital murder. Both men are scheduled to appear before a judge in Junction City on Tuesday, January 8. The capital murder charge makes both Green and Baker eligible for the death penalty if convicted.

An obituary at said Jenna Schafer is survived by two daughters.
