The American Red Cross is in need of volunteers for their Disaster Action Teams.

There are no requirements or prior experience needed to volunteer. Volunteering is not a full time position.

Volunteers will help as first responders to disaster situations in the area. The Red Cross says this is especially important for rural communities that may take longer for other first responders to get to.

There will be training sessions for those who want to volunteer. On Mar. 12 and 14, from 1 to 5 p.m., there will be two mandatory sessions at the Topeka Red Cross Office located at 1221 SW 17th St. They will also offer one optional, additional session on Mar. 23 from 9 am to 5 pm at the Manhattan Public Library, located at 629 Poyntz Ave.

For more information on volunteering for the Red Cross, contact Disaster Program Manager Sarah Wickham at Sarah.Wickham@redcross.org.
