Resale store Findables gives all its proceeds to local hospice care

Part of the excitement of shopping in a second hand store is you’re never quite sure what you’re going to find. Shoppers at Findables in Topeka can be sure of one thing when they go into the store, any money they spend there is going to a good cause.

Davean Crawford visits Findables a couple times a month.

“Usually just to see what’s new, and if I find out that they’re going to have a special then I like to come in and check out the specials,” Crawford said.

The store focuses on selling items that are old but still in good shape, like clothes, jewelry, and things you can find around the house. The store manager Nancy Buckingham Harms calls it upscale and resale.

“Resale means it was previously owned by someone else, however we might have brand new tags on it,” she said.

All the items are donated and all the money they make goes to paying for services at Midland Care. The money goes to the organization’s end of life care.

“Midland turns no one away on their inability to pay for hospice or palliative care services,” she said.

That’s just one of the reasons it keeps Crawford coming back.

“When I find something here I always think ‘oh good, I’m contributing a little bit,'” she said.

There’s another thing that keeps her coming back too: “You just never know what you’re going to find.”

Buckingham Harms said they’re always looking for volunteers to help with things like stocking and running the register. To find out more about volunteering you can call 785-232-2044.

The store is at 1112 SW 6th Avenue in Topeka. It’s open Monday through Saturday.
