There’s an email circulating around the Manhattan area regarding supposed speeding ticket violations that Riley County Police say is bogus. Authorities are warning residents not to fall for it and contact authorities instead.
The email from the “Department of Motor Vehicles” tells the recipient he or she has been cited with a traffic violation and that they must pay within 72 hours.
The mail then links to a so-called “EasyPay” center.
Riley County Police spokeswoman Rachel Pate said they received the email from a concerned resident on Wednesday and are not aware that the email is widespread.
She said the RCPD does not issue citations from the Department of Motor Vehicles and requests anyone receiving the emails to contact police at (785) 537-2112.
