In January, Republican Senators Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran introduced legislation to promote former senator Bob Dole from army Captain, to Colonel.
On Tuesday both chambers passed the legislation unanimously.
Dole earned two purple hearts and two bronze stars for his service in World War Two.
He also served in the U.S. House and Senate and ran for president in 1996.
Dole tweeted today saying that while he isn’t sure he deserves it, he is thankful for the honor.
