A Kansas City business magazine has recognized two from a Topeka hospital as major players in healthcare.

Ingram’s Magazine published its 2019 “Heroes in Healthcare” list on Monday, which recognizes healthcare professionals who are “foundational” to the high quality of life of more than two million people in the region. The list includes Stormont Vail Health’s CEO Randall Peterson and nurse manager Tracy Duran.

Peterson was recognized in the lifetime service category, and said one of his biggest achievements at the hospital was “recognizing that the culture of the organization must be aligned with and supportive of any strategic initiatives to be successful.” Peterson also launched Stormont’s “Small Moments” culture, which encouraged team members to deeply engage with patients for compassionate care.

The recognition comes as Peterson approaches his March 31 retirement.

Duran was recognized in the nursing category, and said her team constantly seeks to make a positive difference in the community.

“I am grateful to my many mentors, and in my capacity now as nurse manager, I am honored to be a mentor myself,” Duran said.
