The rainy weather Tuesday morning didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of teachers and students at McClure Elementary School.

Staff welcomes students for the first day by rolling out a red carpet and greeting them with superhero decorations.

Superintendent Tiffany Anderson said it’s all about getting kids excited for the year ahead.

“So four our kids and families they know they’re so very special, said Topeka Public Schools Superintendent Tiffany Anderson. “McClure is the national school of character and every year they start off showing character comes first. So welcome back to 2018.”

All 501 elementary school started Tuesday.

Sixth graders and high school freshman were also back Tuesday.

All other Topeka Public Schools go back Wednesday.
