TOPEKA (KSNT) – A Topeka High School teacher, nominated by her students in February, won a free Nissan Versa Tuesday night as the KSNT News and Capital City Nissan of Topeka “Teacher of the Year”.

Teresa Leslie-Canty was previously our February “Teacher of the Month” after being nominated by 13 of her students.

Among the comments in their nominations was this statement: “Ms Canty taught me a lot about myself, who I’m becoming and want to be” and this “she is always there for me when I need help and she motivates to never give up and stay on my future.”

Principal Dr. Linda G. Wiley tells us “Ms. Leslie-Canty is one of the most positive and up-beat people that I know. She is very student-focused and she goes out of her way to ensure that her students’ needs are met. Ms. Leslie-Canty has made a difference in the lives of her students!”

All nine of our monthly winners were on hand to try their hand at turning over the ignition of the Versa. Canty was the 8th to give it a try, and was our 11th annual winner.

Congratulations to her, to all of our “Teacher of the Month” designees and a big thank you to all of the teacher who give their time and money to educate the children of northeast Kansas.
