I’m having a party and inviting a few close friends from work. Word has gotten out about the party and I’ve had others asking me about it. I guess they’re looking for an invitation. I don’t have room to host a large group and only invited people I wanted to come. How do I not invite the whole office without being a jerk?
Hmmm, why didn’t you invite me!? Aren’t we close? Aren’t we buddies? Of course not.
Seriously though, people never cease to amaze me. You’re not in grade school and this isn’t a class party. Just tell those who have the nerve to inquire – you’re having a small gathering and you’re looking forward to it! If they go as far as to ask if they can come, tell them you’ve got a full guest list and just don’t have to space for more people.
The good news is, people seem to like you and want to spend time with you. For your next party, you may want to get a bigger space. You may find some new friends. You know, the more the merrier. If you’re happier with a smaller group, do it! Invite only those people you want to spend time with, otherwise it’s not much of a party.
