People working to get back on their feet while on probation won’t have to go as far to get help.
The Shawnee County Community Corrections was granted money by the Shawnee County Commission to open a new office in Wamego.
The new location will save their clients who live in Pottawatomie and Wabaunsee County in travel time, to get help when they need it. They said the new location will help men and women get back into the community, in a more convenient way.
“95 percent of the people that are arrested and convicted of crimes come back to the community,” said Shawnee County Community Corrections Director, Rebecca Cartmill. “They do not ‘go away’, or stay away. So it’s very important that we reintegrate these people successfully, back into our society.”
The new location will open tomorrow. Their contract is only for four months, but, if things go well, they plan to keep renewing.
The new building is located across the street from the Wamego Police Department.
