TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Topeka Fire Department responded to a structure fire early Saturday morning.
At 3:36 a.m. the residents of 1190 SW Jewell awoke to the smell of smoke. Crews forced entry into the residence and found one person just inside the front door. The victim, a 30 year old male, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. No other injuries were reported.
Fire suppression crews quickly put out the fire, confining the damage to the structure of origin. Fire Investigators responded to the scene to conduct an origin and cause scene investigation. Damage is estimated at $20,000.00; $15,000.00 structural and $5,000.00 contents.
